Erik Gomez is a Uvalde County native who is currently the Mayor of Sabinal, Texas. At 25 years
old, Erik Gomez currently holds the title of the Youngest Sitting Mayor in the State of Texas.
A few of Mayor’s Gomez’s accomplishments are:
– Passing a surplus budget
– Partnering with the County of Uvalde to provide meals on wheels to Senior Citizens
– Cutting Wasteful spending
– Clearing out State Violations
– Turning Sabinal’s animal pound into a no kill shelter by getting every single stray cat and
dog rescued and into new homes.
Erik Gomez sits on the Middle Rio Grande Development Council, the Uvalde Area Development
Foundation’s Board of Directors and the Texas Municipal League’s Board of Membership
Services.
Erik is a mayor of a city with close proximity to the U.S.-Mexico Border. Several times a week,
Sabinal Police Department and other agencies are constantly making arrests for human and
drug smuggling in his city. In the first several months of entering office as the Mayor of Sabinal,
Erik has handled several crisis situations. To include 2 high speed chases which resulted in the
deaths of many illegal aliens, and an ongoing opioid crisis in his city.
Professionally, Erik is employed as a law enforcement officer in the Uvalde County/Zavala
County Area having previously served in the Marfa/Big Bend Area. Erik also helps manage
family-owned rental properties. During Erik’s time in Marfa, he was appointed by Mayor Manuel
Baeza and the Marfa City Council to the City of Marfa’s Parks and Recreation Board.
In Erik’s free time, he likes to spend it with family and friends, lift weights and travel to different
places. He also is an avid collector of patches and challenges coins.
